National Geographic Sea Bird was filled with smiles and excitement this morning. Today was our last day in the gray whale birthing lagoons on the Pacific side of Baja California Sur. We came here to spend three days observing adult male, adult female, and newborn calves in shallow lagoons. These whales spend only a few months a year here before they begin a migration of up to 3,000 miles north along the coastline of North America to feed in cold, nutrient-rich waters, then return south the following winter. The Magdalena Bay lagoon is lined with a variety of mangrove trees which create a healthy habitat for diverse species of bird life.
