Bahia Huevos, Costa Rica
Life is a beach!
Today plan A was blown out, literally, the wind at Islas Murcielagos was too strong to safely anchor the ship, let alone attempt snorkel or kayak operations. What to do? The Captain and Expedition Leader conferred and decided to visit the secluded and little known Bahia Huevos where they expected wind to be less and conditions may be favorable for some beach activities.
As it turned out, plan B was better than plan A ever was! We spent the day enjoying the beach, whether it was a bird hike, snorkeling, kayaks, swimming from the stern or just relaxing. But the most fun of all was just to be found playing in the water.
First one of the Zodiacs became a mobile diving platform, jumping, diving and yes, being thrown into the water (see picture). Then we adapted the rudderless kayak into “Jorge’s banana boat” and all took turns being dragged around the bay, wearing our life jackets of course. One after another we were screaming with joy as we were thrown off as the “banana boat” spun around.
We ended the day with a spectacular display of a humpback whale who was breaching with abandon, as if to confirm the water was just way too much fun.
Life is indeed a beach!
