Española Island
The island of Española is like a dream place. At least that is the way most of us, both visitors and guides, consider this place. The reason why we view Española in this light, is quite simple: the animals and the uniqueness of the landscapes are amazing!
Right after breakfast our guests began what promised to be an incredible day of adventure and discovery. Little did they know that our path on the island would take us on an encounter with unique species that arrived in this archipelago millions of years ago. In the process of establishing and adapting, these animals developed special characteristics that would make them suited for the unique environment of the Galapagos. Waved albatross, marine iguanas, lava lizards and mockingbirds are some of the animals that have unique species found only on this island.
The Galapagos Islands are often called the Land of Volcanoes, but the island we visited today did not appear to live up to that name. The landscape was peaceful and very beautiful, and there were no volcanoes in sight. It was a long time ago when the active volcano on Española disappeared due to erosion. Now instead, there is a flat and hill-less view. The beauty of this rich environment is in its high cliffs that stretch along the coastline. Here the sea birds were skydiving and searching for food in the place they will spend the rest of their lives—the big and vast Pacific Ocean.
