Floreana Island

A beautiful sunny afternoon enhanced the intrinsic, wild beauty of Punta Cormorant. An idyllic brackish water lagoon is found here just a few hundred feet away from the landing site. This shallow lagoon holds a good number of birds that carry on their lives in this remote ecosystem. Greater flamingos, white-cheeked pintail ducks and black-necked stilts stand out among others. There are many tiny invertebrates in the water; they provide a lot of food for all the birds that congregate here. Today in the late afternoon we had a wonderful warm light that made the birds look even more spectacular and brighter in color.

Today, black-necked stilts were particularly very close. These elegant birds are very pretty. They show a gorgeous combination of colors. Black and white feathers, a long black beak and very long red legs make this bird look magnificent. This long-legged wader holds a very interesting record. It is the bird with the longest legs in relation to the body size on Earth.
