Galapagos
Today is the first full day of our voyage around this enchanted archipelago. Our expectations are high and many of our guests were already awake very early in the morning when the anchor reached flat bottom on Punta Suarez bay.
Right after breakfast we set foot on the island. The feeling of being in another world could be sensed in every direction, since the animals, totally oblivious to our presence, kept doing whatever they were engaged in doing when we got there. The combination of three totally different kinds of animals living in peace and harmony, such as the sea lions, marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies, was a shock to most of our guests. Soon enough we got to understand that we were visiting a “one of a kind” place and here the different behavior of the animals should be nothing to be surprised at…
After our walk, in which we had quite a few encounters with the fauna of the area, specially a Galapagos hawk feeding on a sea lion’s after-birth, we headed back towards the ship for an orientation briefing for snorkelers.
The water activities are one of the best attractions in this archipelago. The marine life, besides being abundant, is also quite unique. Several species of fish are considered “endemic” to these waters and our guests were very eager in trying both deep water snorkeling and swimming from the shore.
The day couldn’t have gone any smoother than this and the feeling of happiness to be in a different place could be seen in everyone’s faces. It is nice, besides being a privilege, to be in a place where nature interacts so often with our daily activities making the unique dream of coming to Galapagos a “once in a lifetime” experience and a happy reality.
