Española Island
If you are a nature lover, Española Island is the right place to be. It is certainly incredible to experience the abundance and variety of animals that this island holds. A quick survey after the morning walk showed me that our visitors’ favorites today were many. The long list goes from playful sea lions, marine iguanas, to blue- footed boobies. In the afternoon we visited the whitest beach you can imagine, where many of our young guests mingled with young sea lions. Both, sea lion pups and human kids were performing a very peculiar activity: they were body surfing together! Adults, both sea lions and humans, watched the young crowd carefully. It was a magical moment. At one point we could not tell who were enjoying this unusual game the most.
Probably for many of us the most wonderful sighting today were the baby albatrosses. We saw few of them very close by the trail. These chicks are truly big, even as young babies. They looked so funny totally covered by brown down feathers. Their puffy downs together with their large sizes provide them a very comical and yet sweet appearance. They are living fluffy balls with legs. We all just loved them!
