Isabela and Fernandina Island

This side of the archipelago always brings surprises and incredible sightings. It seems like the magic that floats in Galapagos is more obvious in this particular area. If we start making a list of everything we saw today, it will be too long for these short paragraphs. All day long our attention was trapped. Large pods of dolphins were spotted; both bottle-nosed dolphins and common dolphins gave us a great show. Later in the morning we were thrilled to observe a small pod of killer whales. This cetacean species is not very common in these waters. Today we were so lucky that we watched them for a long time and at very close range. In addition we saw the rare giant sun fish (Mola mola).

The snorkeling outing in the afternoon was no less spectacular. Pacific green turtles were everywhere. During the afternoon walk big groups of marine iguanas dominated the volcanic landscape. We watched the behaviors of the two unique Galapagos flightless bird species: the cormorants and the penguins. Several species of rays were found along the coastline. The entire day we had wonderful weather. Sunny skies and a cool breeze were the perfect setting for the spectacular sightings we had today. This was a day to remember, in one of the most remote and beautiful realms of the Galapagos.
