We usually try to plan our first day on Sea Cloud as a full day at sea, so guests can get their first introduction to the glory of a hand-sailed, square-rigged sailing ship and witness all the line-handling and rigging involved. Captain Komakin set the sails in a moderate easterly trade wind breeze about 30 miles east of St. Lucia, with the aim of sailing west to finish the day in sunset light under the iconic Pitons of St. Lucia. That’s exactly what we did, and by the end of the day, Sea Cloud had another 50 dedicated sailors in the family!
