Traveling to Iceland and Greenland as a family is about discovering two extraordinary Arctic realms together—side by side, across generations. With new 2026 itineraries, including Arctic Edges: Iceland Westfjords to East Greenland and Wild Arctic Shores: Circumnavigating Iceland and Exploring Greenland, families can explore these regions through meaningful, shared moments.

Every departure of these voyages features the National Geographic Explorers-in-Training program. This hands-on educational experience transforms the natural world into a dynamic classroom, inviting kids and teens to engage more deeply with what you’re already exploring together as a family.

Rather than a drop-off program or a designated children’s space, National Geographic Explorers-in-Training offers a flexible framework that encourages young travelers to follow their interests—whether it’s geology, wildlife or photography—alongside their family members and guided by National Geographic certified field educators. Occasional kids-focused moments help build independence and confidence, all within the shared spirit of exploration that defines your journey.

At its core, this is a shared experience: one where curiosity is sparked and unforgettable discoveries unfold for travelers of every generation.

Families can set out on hikes together, guided by a naturalist or National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions certified photo instructor, through towering fjords or to thundering waterfalls. On select excursions, certified field educators will lead hikes for kids as part of the National Geographic Explorers-in-Training program, teaching them about endemic flora and fauna along the way.

Activities

Kids will participate in an array of exciting activities on expedition. They may spot whales from the bow in Húsavík, do a plankton tow and study their findings under a microscope or learn how Iceland’s tectonic plates shift and fragment using delicious cookie crumble desserts.
