Travis Booms

An Alaska-based polar ornithologist, Travis has more than 25 years of experience conducting wildlife research across Greenland, Alaska and northern Canada. A globally recognized expert in raptor ecology, his work has focused on understanding the behavior, movements and conservation of birds of prey, while also encompassing a wide variety of other bird and mammal species found in northern ecosystems.

He currently serves as a research wildlife biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, where he investigates important conservation and management questions affecting Alaska's wildlife. His work has taken him into some of the most remote and rugged landscapes in the Arctic and Subarctic, often requiring long days in the field and close observation of wildlife in challenging conditions. These experiences have provided him with a deep appreciation for the complexity and resilience of northern ecosystems.

Travis is passionate about sharing both the science and adventure of field research. Featured on television programs including National Geographic's "Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet" and Lion TV's "Arctic From Above", he enjoys helping others better understand the wildlife and landscapes of the North. Whether discussing raptor ecology, Arctic conservation or memorable moments from the field, he believes the best learning comes through firsthand experience and curiosity.

When not conducting research, Travis embraces an outdoor lifestyle centered on Alaska's wild places. He spends much of his free time exploring remote landscapes and observing wildlife. Guided by a belief that less is more, he lives in a simple one-room cabin north of Fairbanks without running water.
