Garry Donaldson

After 32 years as a biologist with the Canadian government, Garry recently retired from a career dedicated to research and conservation. During that time, he worked as an Arctic seabird field ecologist, a biologist monitoring and conserving migratory birds, a manager of international programs and a steward of protected areas. His work took him into remote environments and provided decades of experience with wildlife research, habitat protection and conservation management. He holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Ottawa, where he studied the population dynamics of the Thick-billed Murre, a cliff-dwelling seabird, at remote breeding colonies in the Canadian Arctic.

These days, Garry spends much of his time developing his work as a conservation photographer and exploring natural spaces throughout the Maritimes from his home in Sackville, New Brunswick. Photography provides another way for him to observe wildlife and landscapes while drawing on his extensive background in biology and conservation.

He also dedicates time to volunteering with several organizations. At Tantramar Seniors College, he shares information and stories from his travels. As a new board member with the Sable Island Institute, he is helping develop a strategic science plan for this remote island in the North Atlantic, continuing his involvement in conservation, research and the stewardship of natural environments.
