See what it means to travel expedition-style
An extraordinary, land-based expedition
Discover the wild, rugged beauty of Costa Rica’s mountains, the Caribbean coast, and much more on an inland adventure inland to a mist-shrouded cloud forest, volcano, lake, and a car-free, jungle village. Travel Costa Rica on this expedition and you’ll:
Take a walk in the clouds of Monteverde
Cloud forests are unique habitats with persistent, canopy-level mist or clouds that brings moisture, allowing vegetation to thrive. Hike the lush reserve of Monteverde and be on the lookout for unique birdlife, including the legendary resplendent quetzal. Enjoy spectacular views on naturalist-guided walks through the diverse vegetation.
Hike at Arenal Volcano
Cross Lake Arenal in small boats before exploring Arenal Volcano, which has been active since 1968. Walk a series of suspension bridges surrounding the smoldering volcano, and relax in natural hot springs near its base. Visit a family owned, third-generation coffee farm with a chance to pick coffee cherries during a tour of the grounds.
Wild Tortuguero: The Caribbean coast
Entering an entirely different biogeographical region, we cross from Arenal to remote, wild Tortuguero National Park. Stay in a rustic lodge at the water's edge, wander the narrow streets of the car-free village where the rain forest pushes in from all sides. Experience the wildness on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica by venturing into the narrow rain forest shrouded canals that let us navigate deep into the park in search of monkeys, caiman, and tropical birds.
