We came into harbor early this morning in Petersburg, Alaska. Taking advantage of the early morning light, we set out on a pre-breakfast photo walk. The boats in the harbor sat on their mirror-image selves. There were many options for ways to explore this small fishing town, including: a walk up into the bog or muskeg environment; a bike ride into town and along the coastline; flightseeing over the Stikine icefield; a walk along the dock to learn about the fishing vessels as well as the invertebrates stuck living stuck the dock itself; or independent study of the hardware store, book shop, and anything else that struck your fancy.
The day closed as we traveled through Snow Pass and spotted a few humpback whales. Our evening meal came fresh from the ocean: We feasted on Dungeness crab as shells flew and butter dripped from our fingers. Delicious!
